Many thanks to the friends who support the Blog and support me and my family accordingly. I don't know how I would have survived without this support. Most of the money goes to medicine, diapers and food.
God bless you.
With respect!

my wife said a couple of weeks ago, if there is money, let's go buy chickens, raise them and have our own eggs. She said we will take the little ones for 2-5 days and will grow them. And during this time, while they are small, you will make a large cage for them.
This month, they transferred me 50 euros and 1000 rubles to support the blog. We immediately spent 1000 rubles on medicine for the petty person, for my wife and me - they poured it in, and they also found sinusitis in addition to my "bouquet" in general, we work for a pharmacy.
Tomorrow the wife's sister will arrive (she left with her husband to live in Russia) and bring diapers, medicines, something from clothes for the senior first-grader from Russia. And the remaining 2800r. yesterday managed to get in Donetsk from cashiers at 10%.
1000 rubles was spent on food, and the rest were allocated 1200 rubles for electricity and today they bought as many as 8 chickens, 7 chickens and one cockerel for 200 rubles.
It was interesting for me for a techie to watch how they determined who the hen was, who was the cockerel - they turned it upside down and if the chicken raised its head, and if it turns the cockerel - yes, live and learn.
They brought in, put the chickens in a box - the little one happily ran up and grabbed the chicken by the neck. He took it away, scolded it and slapped it on the hands. The little guy went to his mom anyway, but then when I left he made another attempt to grab the chicken.
Now I will print the project and go to select the bars for the chicken tractor. Last year I came across and liked the project that I placed below. What I liked about him is that the dog will not get to the chickens and the main thing will be a clean yard.

Chicken tractor (mobile chicken coop) - general information

The chicken tractor is a portable mini chicken coop. Thanks to its lightweight design and wheels, it can be easily moved by one person. Getting to the area with fresh greenery, the chickens peck at the ground parts of the plants, rake and fertilize the ground. The chicken tractor can be equipped with nests for receiving eggs and automatic feeders / drinkers with a margin of several days.

Why is a chicken tractor better than a chicken coop?

  • provides chickens with vegetation and insects, which reduces the need for feed additives

  • within the mini chicken coop, chickens peck out the grass, loosen and fertilize the ground, thereby preparing the soil for future plantings in a few days "for free"

  • chicken tractor protects chickens from predators

  • the chicken tractor protects your garden from chickens, which is especially important in small areas

  • unlike a regular chicken coop, the chicken tractor has no floor, which means there is no need to clean it

Despite the small size, the chicken tractor does not restrict the chickens, they keep their usual way of life, the chicken tractor equipped with nests allows you to collect eggs. All you need is to periodically move the structure to a new place, replenish food / water supplies, and of course collect eggs.

See how to make a chicken tractor for 9-12 chickens, with nests.

DIY 8-nest chicken tractor - in 8 steps
(interesting project)

In this article I will describe the plan for building a chicken tractor. A fairly new design for our region, despite the fact that it has been used in the west for a long time, both for personal and industrial purposes. The basis of the chicken tractor is wooden, made of 50x50 and 50x70 bar. Dimensions 1.70x3x0.84m.

The design is designed for 9-12 chickens. Chickens peck out the grass and loosen the ground around the entire perimeter of the tractor, thanks to the grid, you can be calm both for your garden and the safety of chickens from predators. 1-2 times a week, the chicken tractor moves to a new location, the chickens receive fresh grass, and you cultivated land. In the sleeping compartment, chickens rush and sleep. It is convenient to collect eggs through 2 small doors on the sides.

The design provides for a mechanism for collecting chicken droppings. Also, the chicken tractor is equipped with an auto feeder and an auto drinker for poultry, with a margin of 5-7 days, which allows you to safely leave the chickens for a specified period.

step 1

We make the basis of a chicken tractor from a 50x70 bar.

step 2

We install the bearing posts and mount the base of the roof.

step 3

We install bearing supports. here I am already using a 50x50 bar.

step 4

Installation of the sleeping compartment base. Installation of wheels.

step 5

Making nests and setting up perches.
The sizes are not random, it is important to do everything as indicated in the figure.

step 6

We mount the supports for the guides, we attach the corner to the guides, for the pallet.

step 7

Assembling and installing the litter collection tray.

The chicken tractor is a great tool for using chickens to cultivate your site, fertilize and clear weeds. Renowned permaculture designer Dano Gorsic has developed his concept of a chicken tractor adapted to the temperate climate.

Dano Gorsich lives on the island of Molokai in Hawaii and is considered a veteran of the permaculture movement and is a direct disciple of Bill Mollison, author of the acclaimed best-selling book Basics of Permaculture.
For more than 35 years, he has been cultivating his site according to the instructions of his teacher.

Below is a description of a slightly modified chicken coop system developed by Dano Gorsic from Molokai, Hawaii, adapted to the temperate climate.

It is necessary to build a square pen divided into four equal parts, in the center of which there will be a chicken coop with perches. It is necessary to position the chicken coop so that it is possible to release chickens one by one into each of the 4 sections of the pen. Ideally, one chicken should have 3 square meters in each section of the pen.

Four-year cycle technology

Dano offers the following methodology for the development and processing of the site for 4 years.
Chickens are grazed in the first section of the pen throughout the year. In the fall, chickens are transferred to the second section, and in the first they are processed with lime and mulched. In spring, plants are planted there such as white cabbage, Savoy, Chinese, cauliflower, asparagus and Brussels sprouts, head salads, kohlrabi, tomatoes, watermelon, peppers, eggplants, pumpkin, cucumbers, leeks, sweet corn, celery and spinach.

In the second year in the first section, plants are planted less demanding on the content of organic matter. These are root vegetables (without celery), onions (with the exception of leeks) and vegetable salad greens.

legumes, cereals and sunflowers are planted, which will then be used as feed for chickens. The described procedure is repeated in turn in each section.

For the fourth year chickens, having passed all the sections, return to the first. You can also plant fruit near the corral

In the fourth year, the chickens, having passed all the sections, return to the first. You can also plant fruit trees next to the corral, the fruits of which will be food for chickens. Pigs can be used in a similar way.

Also, the chicken tractor can be mobile. A large mobile cage is made of metal mesh, which moves around the site as needed. With the help of this device, you can completely clear a plot of land from weeds and at the same time fertilize it with bird droppings, while the birds can be given about half as much grain, since in addition to plant food, they also find a lot of insects in the ground.

Growing poultry and caring for planting in the garden seem to be two very different things. But, they can be very successfully combined into one, in which such an invention as a chicken tractor will help us.

Chicken tractor - what is this miracle, and why is it needed on the farm

Back in the twentieth century, and maybe even earlier, in Western countries they began to use a miracle technology for fertilizing and cultivating the land. From the United States, its name came to us - the chicken tractor, and from England - the chicken ark. This technology is used on large areas of land for industrial purposes, and in private households.

The chicken tractor is a mobile mini-chicken coop for a chicken family, which is moved by one person, plows and fertilizes exactly the places of the land where you want. They use it from spring to cold weather, depending on the climate. Some chicken coops are made for winter.

In Russia, this technology began to gain popularity, and more and more people rejoice at such a simple design that makes life easier.

5 reasons to make a DIY chicken tractor

  1. Chickens will constantly fertilize the plot of land where their chicken coop stands. By digging up the ground, they will prepare the soil for free. Loose and fertilized soil is perfect for growing garden crops.
  2. Many people have an acute issue with the safety of birds - in our region they are often dragged by predators, and only a well-protected chicken coop can help here.
  3. Chickens are free-roaming, feasting on spider bugs, finding caterpillars and worms, removing weeds, and completely leaving the ground bare in a few days.
  4. There is no need to clean the floor of the coop, it is simply transported to another location. This is a great advantage of the tractor over a stationary chicken coop.
  5. Mobility and ease of construction. The chicken tractor can be equipped with automatic feeders and nests for incubating eggs can be made.

Mobile chicken coops are of many types - with a domed roof structure, rectangular, in the form of houses and greenhouses. Often, they are an A-frame with multiple wheels for movement. They are divided into summer and winter designs.

A chicken tractor can be used to breed not only chickens, but also other birds, adjusting slightly for each species: turkeys, geese and ducks, and even quails.

Materials and tools for building a tractor:

  • Boards and slats (sometimes metal arcs are used);
  • Metal or plastic mesh;
  • Sheds and latches for doors;
  • Self-tapping screws and nails;
  • Stapler;
  • Roof (there may be different options, depending on what you have on the farm)

Of the tools you will need:

  • Saw on wood;
  • Hammer and plane;
  • Drill;
  • Chisel;
  • Roulette with a pencil.

You can solder a structure made of white polypropylene pipes. Thus, it will be much easier.

We start building a portable chicken coop

First you need to decide on the size, based on the number of chickens. We focused on 5-7 chickens. For the convenience of moving by one person, you can make two or even three tractors if there is material. At the same time, chickens can also walk around the site if you open the door.

In all types of chicken coop, the space will be divided into two parts - one for the hens, and the other for walking. It was decided to make the first tractor in the simplest way, it will be summer, and it is easy to roam around the site. And by autumn it is worth trying to make a winter version.

The construction scheme looks like this:

1. We fasten three triangular-shaped frames with boards to which carry handles are attached. They can be done on top or on the sides of the structure.

2. We make the bottom of the slats and stretch the mesh. Overlaps can be made of plywood by inserting a ladder for chickens.

3. Depending on the type of construction, you need to make an entrance.

4. Determine where the perches will be and where the resting place is.

5. We make the roof. One part must be removed - so that you can clean the chicken coop. You also need to make a small ventilation window with a mosquito net.

6. Treating the tractor with varnish.

In the future, it is worth equipping the chicken coop with drinkers and feeders. For larger chicken coops, add wheels.

The larger the diameter of the wheels, the better! Moreover, they need to be done only outside the tractor.

If the chickens are constantly under the threat of attack by predators, then on the bottom you can also put and fix a net so that they do not undermine the ground.

Construction of a winter version of the chicken coop

The winter chicken coop differs from the summer one in that you just need to insulate it and make the structure more durable. First you need to make a detailed drawing. The construction scheme is also simple:

  1. A rectangular frame is made from large bars. Where the closed part will be, you need to attach the wheels.
  2. The rest of the details are being completed, dividing the chicken coop into two parts - an open area and a closed one, where there will be perches, a recreation area and a window. The mesh is stretched.
  3. Walls are being erected with subsequent insulation, and a small entrance.
  4. The roof must be very strong and also open for cleaning inside.
  5. Painting the tractor with protective equipment.

What to do after cultivating the land with a chicken tractor

After the chickens have loosened and fertilized the soil, you should sow cereals, which will quickly sprout in good soil. Wheat in summer and rye in autumn. After such preparation, the next year, you can safely plant any vegetables and herbs, without bothering to dig up the earth.

Thus, the chicken tractor is of great benefit to the site, the chickens feel calm in it, and they perform their functions, bringing eggs and removing weeds.
