The most beautiful things are obtained only by combining such components as inspiration and craftsmanship. Interior items decorated with dot painting are a prime example of this. Spectacular panels, original installations decorated with dotted patterns can become a real highlight of the kitchen interior, being a worthy addition to any design. And the creation of such decorative elements is in itself a fascinating exercise. To master this uncomplicated, but rather original technique, we suggest taking two spot painting master classes for beginners as a basis.

The point-to-point technique was originally used in Russia to create coinage. Later it became known as "drip": the paint was simply collected in straws and "dripped" onto the image. Today, spot painting, which has absorbed the techniques of graphics, mosaics and stained glass, is captivating more and more people with the ease of execution, grace and beauty of the drawing.

This popular technique is also known as point-to-point.

The principle of drawing the contours of the ornament lies in the very name of the technique: the drawing is created as a result of a combination of many points. Each of them can have a different color and size. And they can be applied in different colors.

Simplicity is the main advantage of spot painting

Anyone can create their own masterpiece, even if they have never held an artistic brush in their hands and has no idea how to draw correctly.

Dot painting is the most in a simple way, with the help of which you can breathe new "life" into old souvenirs or accessories that have lost their attractiveness over time.

The application technique is determined by the shape of the item to be decorated and the material from which it is made. This technique can be used to decorate any surface: dishes and kitchen utensils, caskets and passport covers, laptop and phone cases.

The subtleties of choosing materials for painting

Using various types of paints in your work, you can decorate cutlery, tableware elements and any other interior items. For painting on dishes, it is better to choose paints that are distinguished by increased moisture resistance and light sensitivity.

When choosing paints for decoration, consider the type of surface on which they will be applied. Otherwise, the pattern you created will not last long on the object. Painting can be done using the following types of paints:

  • Clay objects - paints for ceramics and glass. They are also called contour paints. They are sold in small tubes with an elongated spout.
  • Metal accessories - painted with enamel paints. Jewelry decorated with enamel is distinguished by durability, brightness and purity of colors.
  • Products textile production - "fabric" acrylic. Garment contours are less abrasion resistant.

Tip: when buying paints, test the tubes, paying attention to the density of the composition. To determine the consistency, press the tube: the paint should not come out too easily, forming a puddle, but it should not be too difficult to squeeze out.

Paints for painting are:

  • water-based - they are easily washed off with water;
  • on organic - removed from the surface only with a solvent such as white spirit.

For painting surfaces in contact with food, you should use special paints that must be fired at a temperature of 600-800 ° C. It is impossible to use such paints at home. For these purposes, craftswomen choose self-hardening paints. They harden without firing for 2 days. But such circuits are less resistant to detergents. Dishes painted with self-hardening acrylic paints require more careful handling.

There are two types of paints for painting dishes:

  • Overglaze - a mixture of pigments with fusible glass. They are applied to glazed dishes.
  • Underglaze - a mixture of pigments with glaze. They are used to decorate unglazed surfaces. A transparent overglaze layer, which makes the dishes shiny, is applied already on top of the drawing.

Depending on what effect you plan to get, choose paints: forming a matte or glossy finish, translucent stained glass and opaque opaque compositions. It is convenient to use 3D gels to create volumetric points and "pearls".

Highlights when painting dishes

Point-to-point is a rather demanding type of creativity. Indeed, the presentability of the product depends on the perseverance of the master and the accuracy of the work. This technique does not tolerate slowness and carelessness.

Painting dishes, be it decorative plates or graceful vases, using point technology includes a number of main stages:

  1. Preparation of the base. The surface of the object is degreased with an alcohol compound or nail polish remover.
  2. Background drawing. The background of the desired shade is applied to the prepared base with any paint: gouache, acrylic, automotive, stained glass. For this purpose, it is convenient to use an acrylic primer: when applied thickly, it gives a cloudy white shade.
  3. Marking the future drawing. It's better to come up with a drawing in advance, but even if you start improvising, you will certainly get a wonderful pattern.
  4. Drawing creation. An ornament is created by alternately applying dots of the selected color and size.

Master class: spot painting of a glass bottle

Spot painting can transform any objects, making them original decorative elements. Using this technique, you can easily transform an inconspicuous glass bottle into an amazing vessel or unusual flower vase.

The main thing is to choose the texture and color palette of paints so that the accessory created by your hands will organically fit into the design of the room.

Selection of materials and tools

To make an original vessel you will need:

  • glass bottle;
  • degreaser;
  • universal soil;
  • acrylic paints for painting on glass;
  • flat wide synthetic brush.
  • aerosol varnish to protect and fix the pattern.

When choosing a glass shade, keep in mind that spot painting looks most impressive on dark surfaces.

It is convenient to use flat glass bottles for painting dishes. Background paint is applied to them only if the shade or transparency of the product is not satisfied.

Preparation of the glass base

The bottle is cleaned of labels and thoroughly degreased with an alcohol-containing liquid. Apply a primer with a wide brush, evenly distributing it over the surface.

You can take a pattern for decorating a bottle from the Internet by looking at ideas on thematic forums, or come up with it yourself. To make the pattern even and symmetrical, a strip of a notebook sheet is fixed on the outer walls of the bottle with the help of tape. The width of the strip will determine the size of the pattern. In the proposed version, the pattern will be 13 cells wide.

The central line of the pattern is drawn along the edge of the glued sheet.

Application of basic patterns

Start painting the bottle. Along the top edge of the sheet acrylic outline apply a strip of several points of the same size. When working with a contour, the tube must be held vertically. Thanks to this, the dots are smooth and symmetrical.

Tip: blots and inaccuracies that often occur when drawing dots can be easily eliminated with a hygienic stick moistened with alcohol.

Leaf cells will help you work out the distance between points and create a straight line

Use stencil templates to create smooth semicircles and pattern curves. You can make them yourself by cutting out a blank of the desired size from the same sheet of paper. To determine the size of the semicircles, you need to divide the bottle circumference by the number of elements.

Tip: do not forget to re-degrease the surface from time to time with a napkin soaked in alcohol, as fingerprints will reappear on the glass during the painting process.

Having applied the template to the glass, they make a contour of small dots.

Painting framing contours

To obtain ornate openwork patterns, dots are applied in different sizes, alternating between them.

Drawing hearts and flowers, feel free to let your imagination run wild

When creating new elements of the ornament, a stencil of the required size is cut out again and outlines for the future contour are made on it.

The points marked according to the template are "pointed" with an acrylic contour

If small details of the pattern can be made "by eye", then when painting large elements with acrylic paints, templates cannot be dispensed with.

The bottle can be painted with paint until the entire surface is covered

Anyone who has ever tried to create lace patterns from a scattering of dots will confirm that the process of creating an ornament is simply mesmerizing.

Plate decoration using the "point-to-point" technique

The technique of painting plates is not much different from the process of decorating a bottle described above. The first step is to carefully degrease the surface and transfer the sketch markings to a glass or ceramic surface.

Experienced craftswomen can draw without sketches right away on a plate, inventing patterns along the way. We still recommend that beginner needlewomen think over the artistic concept in advance by choosing ornaments and choosing a color palette for themselves.

For the first work, it is most convenient to use transparent glass plates as a basis.

A sheet with a sketch of the motive of the drawing is placed under the plate, and then the contours are drawn point by point

Before you start painting, practice on paper to create outlines from the dots of a small and large sizeby placing them at the same distance from each other.

It is better to start contouring from the center of the plate, gradually moving to its edges.

So that the drawing does not accidentally shift during work, it is better to glue the cut template for a while with back side plates with scotch tape or electrical tape.

Draw on the principle "from general to particular": starting with drawing large outlines and finishing with the study of small details

When creating lines, keep such a minimum distance between points so that they are well "read", but at the same time do not merge into a solid line

If drawing from tubes is difficult for you, draw dots with a toothpick or needle

The choice of shades and their alternation depends only on your imagination and the chosen pattern.

The paint applied to the plate should harden.

Under natural conditions, the paint hardens within 24 hours. To speed up the process, blow dry the surface and leave the decorated plate for 10-12 hours. After the paint has completely dried, it remains only to fix the drawing with varnish.

Video master class: painting accessories using the "point to point" technique

Having mastered the technique of spot painting, you can easily bring your ideas to life, developing the makings of an artist in yourself. Decor elements created with their own hands will become the pride of the kitchen hostess and a worthy interior decoration.

AT recent times the technique of point painting (or as it is also called in English-language sources "point-to-point" is gaining increasing popularity among needlewomen. The advantages of this method of decorating products are simplicity and accessibility, because to cope with point technique even beginners can. To paint with dots, you do not need special drawing skills, only accuracy and patience will be enough. Technically, stencils made specifically for spot painting, which we provide in our article, will help us in technical terms.

After a few trainings, even those artists who have never drawn in their life can get even points. And that is why this technique is ideal for beginners who want to master painting with acrylic paints.

Dot patterns can be applied to almost any surface. Of course, the larger the area of \u200b\u200bthe product, the more time and patience it will take to complete the drawing. But the result will definitely be worth the effort! Beginners can try their hand at first at miniature and simple images - it can be painting glasses or glass bottles from under any drinks. Of course, all labels must be carefully removed from the bottle before use.

We prepare special stencils for spot painting in MK

For spot painting, you can use ordinary acrylic paints, but special contours are best suited - these paints have a denser texture and are packaged in small tubes with a thin dispenser. Thanks to this, the contours can make points of the same size without special efforts... If you do use regular paints, you will need a thin, rounded brush. Toothpicks, knitting needles, erasers at the end of a pencil can also be used as improvised means for applying points of different sizes.

For painting on glass, you can try using ordinary colored nail polishes instead of paints, but remember that in this case the drawing may be short-lived. There are also special markers for painting on glass - they are also very convenient to use and they do not require long drying. And in order to put large volumetric points, you can use special 3D gels or "pearl" paints. In addition, before starting work, the surface of any product will need to be degreased with a special solution or a simple nail polish. The same solution will be needed to correct the points that were applied inaccurately.

Where to get patterns for spot painting?

Each master has his own secrets for making products self made... Experienced artists can draw "out of their heads", coming up with patterns as they apply paint to the surface of an object. Other masters prefer to first mark the lines of the composition with a pencil or other improvised means, and then draw the details. However, these methods are more suitable for those who are good with a brush and know how to draw. All others wishing to join the art of dot painting can use a ready-made template or stencil. For opaque surfaces, you can use stencils (ready-made ones are sold in specialized stores). And for glass products (especially plates), you can simply print a sketch on paper and place it under the product - the drawing will be clearly visible and can be easily circled.

What can be used as patterns for painting?

You don't have to search ready-made stencils specially for spot painting. Other types of ideas can be picked up. applied arts, for example you can use:

  • patterns for cross stitch or weaving with beads
  • patterns on fabrics, especially in ethnic style
  • openwork napkins, lace or knitting patterns
  • ethnic ornaments and patterns printed in a suitable size on paper (you can use books on traditions and ethnic embroidery;
  • paper napkins or decoupage cards

Inspiration can also be found among the masterpieces of architecture and mosaic painting.

Stencils with round patterns are most often used for painting plates. Symmetrical sectors diverge at the edges from the center point. It is very important when painting plates that the pattern on all parts of the plate is the same, because the difference in the size of the points or the distance between them will immediately catch the eye.

Elongated patterns or ornaments designed in the form of a wide ribbon are more suitable for spot painting of bottles. It is not necessary to cover the entire surface of the bottle with dots, you can paint only a part of it, or you can combine the chiseled technique with others, for example, with decoupage.

The most advantageous are boxes painted in full, but this requires a very a large number of time and patience. You can place the largest pattern on the lid, and accompanying symmetrical patterns on the sides.

Many have asked me to tell you how I make dot patterns. Apparently the time has come for my first MC in the point-to-point technique (point to point). Of course, I can't compare with the eminent masters of the Internet, and I'm not a very good photographer either, but I think something will become clearer for those who are just starting to engage in spot painting.

I ... picked up stencils for YOU - templates ... and some information and photos ...

Black and white templates - someone uses it as coloring books for children, someone as material for hand-made ... But in fact, it is used in scrapbooking and is called DIGISTAMPS. What it is? These are images that could be stamps, but not everyone has the opportunity to have such stamps (specific or in a large assortment), so they are simply printed on a printer and used. Thus, you have the opportunity to decorate your postcard or other work.

Perhaps for YOU this is just a dotted set ... for me it is a lot of many things ... including Romanian and decks ... and art ... it all depends on imagination and knowledge ...

These contours have thin noses and this is very important. The set contains 6 colors.

But the set does not include Copper. I buy it separately.

Other paints in the set are usually sold separately.
And also, in some works, I use "Gamma" paints - Copper with sparkles and Gold with sparkles. The spouts are thick enough there, but they are suitable for these colors.

I know that there are contours for glass and ceramics from PEBEO and IDEA, but they are not found in our area and I cannot say anything about them ...

The first thing to do is to prepare the surface to be painted - wash it with dishwashing detergent, dry it and degrease it with alcohol or vodka. Do not take vodka far away - creative person No way without vodka!))) - in the process of work, handprints will remain on the glass, and we will clean them up with a swab soaked in vodka. If the glass is poorly degreased, the paint may not adhere well.

You can practice on a regular glass, which is not a pity))

We learn to put points by lightly pressing on the tube. We try to ensure that not only the points are the same size, but also the distance between them

Does it work? Now we try to put small dots

Now we are trying to draw a curved line.

That, in general, is all the wisdom! It remains only to fill your hand. Drawing stripes is boring, so I suggest drawing a floral pattern

Please note that you need to alternate points of different sizes - then the drawing will not look monotonous. And we continue

And some of the work I do on primed glass. The soil is stained glass paint... And then the finished work might look like this

.............

First of all, I would like to address this master class to beginners in the point-to-point technique, and to everyone who is interested in this technique.
As a basis, I took a generalized oriental motive, in which there is a heart figure as a symbol of life, a traditional hexagonal star and droplets - a symbol of purity. I never learned how to draw, so I took the basis for the plate from the Internet (unfortunately I don’t know the author of this ornament) Here is such a basis

The main thing is to always remember that we do not just want to copy some drawing, but we need a base, which we will already fill with colors and soul.
Preparing the plate for work. To begin with, we degrease and dry it well.
In order to transfer the drawing to the plate, I used my favorite carbon copy method. She fixed the carbon copy with the drawing with clerical clips and began to trace the drawing along the contour. I do this with a pen so that I can see for sure what is already outlined and what is not.

After removing the carbon copy, we get faint black lines on the plate. The main thing is to be vigilant - the carbon print is not durable, so you do not need to rub it hard with your hands, otherwise it is very well erased. The minus of this trace is dirt on the hand, so you can put a napkin under your hand when working

When drawing in the point-to-point technique, the most important thing in my opinion is the firmness of the hands. Because I am right-handed, then in my case the position of the hands is as follows. Both elbows are on the table. The left hand is under the bottom of the plate, which allows you to scroll it, when drawing a pattern, without touching the pattern itself. The right hand holds the outline at approximately 45 degrees to the surface of the cymbal, plus palm rest on the very edge of the cymbal for added stability.

Before putting a dot on the outline, I advise you to take a napkin and try to put a dot on it. So you can understand the density of the contour, whether the spout is clogged and at the same time, if you accidentally pressed hard on the contour and got a bold point - save the plate. If everything suits you, we begin to apply the drawing from the center. Everything is simple here, it is more difficult to lubricate the drawing in the center with your hand than if it is at the edges.

In each of us, from time to time, a desire to create wakes up, creating beauty. The point-to-point technique, or point painting, for novice craftswomen will be a fun and easy task, since it does not require professional skills paint. To master the point-to-point technique, you will need to work out the application of the same points of different sizes.

For beginners, it is the art of drawing dots from which a pattern, ornament or plot picture is built.

The dot pattern can be used to decorate crafts, souvenirs, accessories, jewelry, interior items and much more. In theory, you can draw with a thin brush or an old felt-tip pen, but, in general, this method is found for beginners - the most convenient. Using the outline gives the effect of raised points that look impressive.

The drawing must be neat, the same distance must be observed between the elements of the pattern, which is why it is more convenient to use special contour paints. The paint in the tube is protected from drying, for application it is enough to slightly squeeze the tube, and the tip has a small cut, which allows you to adjust the size of the dots. According to the reviews of needlewomen, the best contours are considered "Decola", "Idea", "Gamma", "Tair", which can be purchased in shops for creativity and needlework, as well as ordered in foreign online stores.

Spot painting for beginners is carried out using special stencils and templates that are placed under glass objectdesigned for painting. If you are decorating a wine glass or vase, you can secure the sketch of the pattern inside the container with tape. This approach allows you to achieve the clarity of the executed drawing.

When decorating the vase, spot painting was used. Photos of the finished product and the stages of drawing, see below.

The surface of the product must be degreased with acetone or alcohol to obtain a high-quality image. If the subject is matte, a base tone is applied acrylic paint... When drawing a pattern, you need to periodically wipe the contour nose with a dry cloth, in this case the points will be clearer and more even. To avoid the formation of lumps, the spout is cleaned with a pin or a paper clip.

Dry the finished drawing, then cover it with transparent varnish. To make the drawing durable, some craftswomen recommend keeping glass glasses in the oven at a temperature of 150-170 ° C for 30 minutes.

It is not necessary to immediately paint souvenir wine glasses with complex patterns, dot painting for beginners can be limited to simple elements of one or two colors, the execution of which will be a valuable experience and will help fill your hand. In the future, the experience of applying various ornaments will allow you to perform more complex work.

Some artists put their work up for sale and have a steady income, as works of art, done with the proper skill, are valuable.

- this is special kind drawing, when a drawing is created from points. The dots are collected in shapes and lines, and as a result, everything looks very interesting - like beaded weaving or rhinestones pasted on a pattern.

A bit of history

Dot patterns look very nice. And so people figured out to draw with dots in several places in the world at once. However, historians believe that the earliest invented dot ornaments were the Australian aborigines - the oldest samples were found in Australia, and these samples are about 40,000 years old! Nevertheless, dot painting is also known in other parts of the world - in China and India, in Indonesia and Africa, in Persia and Thailand.

Since the discovery of the Green Continent, Australian paintings have been of great interest to European art critics and artists. Therefore, dots have found a place in serious painting. J.-P. wrote their pictures with dots. Seurat, P. Signac, L. and C. Pizarro.

Naturally, dots were also used by European peoples in traditional crafts. But we will not touch on them - because there it is just an element.

Spot painting for beginners: I want it too!

Spot painting is no more difficult than beading or embroidery. At first glance, it seems that you will never succeed, that this is a very long and painstaking work, but this is not so. Try with a pencil first - you will see that the surface closes with dotted patterns pretty quickly. But a pencil is not a dot painting yet. Other materials are needed here.

Spot painting for beginners is not too burdensome, because no terribly expensive tools and materials are required. And what you need?

  • Any workpiece with a flat surface - for example, wood, ceramic, glass, plastic.
  • Quite thick paint - for a start, you can take any acrylic, but if you want, you can buy special paints for spot painting, called "contour".
  • Sharpened stick, hard pencil, old non-writing marker for applying paint.
  • A bottle of acetone or any alcohol-based liquid to degrease the surface (even the same cologne or cheap nail polish remover).
  • And, of course, prepared workplace - comfortable, with good light.

Spot painting technique or "where to start?"

The spot painting technique is the same for all styles. And there are also many painting styles. We will start, perhaps, with what may be closer to most of our needlewomen: mosaic dots.

What mosaic points? This is a drawing, in other words, made in cells. Only instead of a cell, a dot. Do you remember where you saw this? Yes, these are patterns for cross stitching and jacquard patterns.

Another way is radial ornaments, that is, those in which the drawing goes from the center or several centers, being located around the rays. By the way, for this, you can even use a crochet napkin pattern or for weaving lace.

And there is more free waywhen you just draw all kinds of shapes with dots. It's up to you whether to use a template or create on a whim.

But back to our samples. To begin with, we will choose a simple drawing in which only one color is involved - and one paint. In addition to paint, we need:

  • cotton swabs and discs;
  • acetone or nail polish remover;
  • darning needle (pencil, felt-tip pen);
  • stencil paper;
  • sample paper;
  • wallpaper knife or blade;
  • masking tape or paper clips;
  • a sheet of watercolor paper or cardboard (for the timid);
  • glass jar (for the decisive).

We will conduct the first master class on a piece of watercolor paper - it's easier this way, and if it doesn't work out, then it's not a pity to throw it away. And if you want, you can try it on a glass jar. But if it turns out well, it will be nice.

There is no need to degrease the paper, but if you suddenly decide to take a chance and paint a glass jar, then treat its entire surface with acetone using a cotton pad.

Prepare a scheme for painting. You can come up with it yourself, or you can find something simple and cute in your storerooms. From the scheme you need to make a stencil for painting. To do this, you need to transfer the picture to thick paper, and then cut it with a blade or a wallpaper knife along the contour.

Take a piece of thick paper and practice making dots with a needle or pencil. The dots should be neat and consistent. If you immediately use contour paint, no additional devices are needed, their role is played by the nozzle of the tube in the form of a cone. To keep the points round, you need to place the tool vertically, as close to the ideal vertical as possible, or with a slight slope. The greater the slope, the more likely the dots will be oval or smeared into commas.

To keep the points the same, you need to periodically clean the instrument. Moreover, when using a paint-contour, you also need to press on the tube with the same force. But try it - you will see that only skill is needed here, nothing more.

So, fix the template on the surface to be painted with masking tape (if you have a jar) or paper clips (if you have a sheet of cardboard). Apply points carefully along the contour of each element of the picture, trying to keep them evenly spaced. We start with large elements and end with small ones.

If the drawing suggests, the points can be of different sizes. For example, the contours of a large leaf can be made with large dots, and inside the leaf can be filled with an ornament of small dots. Uniformity and round size is what matters.
